Born 4th August 1938. Her father owned a fruit farm in Sussex and she lived there for the first few months of her life. Then they moved to Surrey and she went to a Quaker boarding school, As a child she had said she wanted to go to the hospital with the big gun opposite, but she first applied to various other hospitals because we couldn’t remember which one had the gun! Thankfully, as it turned out, she didn’t get in to the other hospitals, and was accepted at St. George’s.
She was in the second set to have their PTS at Tooting. She spent time on the TB and polio wards at Tooting.
After the first year at Tooting, she moved up to HPC, working initially on theatres. She was also placed on Marie Tempest, a private ward. They also did six weeks at Horton Mental Hospital, with a fortnight on three different types of ward.
After qualifying she returned to the gynae wards and spent a happy year as a staff nurse at the time of the building of the underpass outside HPC. . She went back to Crayle as the red belt for a year or two until she left to get married.
