Born on 24th July 1932 in Ross-on-Wye and was educated at the local grammar school. She applied to Westminster and to St. George’s Hospitals. She received no reply from Westminster, so she followed up St. George’s.
Coming from the country, she was initially somewhat overwhelmed. She did her PTS at Earls Court Square and thoroughly enjoyed her time. She worked on various wards including Hunter and Crayle. She did three months at Tooting, at that time the hospital had only two wards there. She also worked at the Children’s Hospital in Tite Street for a short time, as well as AMH.
Just before her finals she went on theatre, which she loved, and she stayed for four years.
Doreen left St. George’s in 1958 and went to work at the Royal Marsden. She feels it was a very sad day when she left.
